Özgür Kurt was born in Edirne on January 13, 1980. He completed his undergraduate education in the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching at Trakya University between 1999 and 2003. He pursued his master’s degree between 2011 and 2016 and his doctoral education between 2017 and 2022 in the Department of Disability Studies at the Institute of Social Sciences of Trakya University. He completed his master’s thesis entitled “The Effectiveness of Most-to-Least Prompting in Teaching Dynamic Stretching Exercises to Adults with Intellectual Disabilities” and his doctoral dissertation entitled “The Effectiveness of Adapted Physical Activity on Focused Attention in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.”
During his doctoral studies, he was supported as a scholarship holder in the field of Special Education within the scope of the 100/2000 YÖK Priority Areas Program conducted by the Council of Higher Education of Türkiye. In addition, he participated in the “Physical Education and Sports Workshop for Students with Special Needs,” organized in cooperation with Istanbul Kent University and Engelsiz Eğitim Vakfı between May 25–27, 2021, with his study titled “Game and Sports,” and also served as the workshop secretary. In 2021, he participated as a trainee in the TÜBİTAK 2237-A ASD-MB (Autism Spectrum Disorder and Motor Skills) Project supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye. In 2026, he took part in the Early Childhood Workshop on Inclusive Education organized by Marmara University. Furthermore, he successfully completed the Sign Language Certificate Program organized by the Edirne Public Education Center and Evening Art School between 2016 and 2017. He teaches several undergraduate and graduate courses in the field of special education within the Faculty of Education.
Dr. KURT has also served as the Head of Department and Erasmus Coordinator at Istanbul 29 Mayıs University. His main academic research interests include adapted physical activity, motor development, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, early childhood special education, inclusive education practices, and peer bullying. He has scientific articles published in national and international peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations, and book chapters. In addition, he has served as a researcher and trainer in various academic projects related to special education, adapted physical activity, and autism.
